Aims

Here are our initial aims – they will change!

Aims:

1)     Map key agencies and individuals who play a role in heritage decision making in York.

2)     Map key individuals and community networks concerned with York’s history and heritage (local history group, big and active facebook groups).

3)     Understand how specific ‘heritage’ decisions have been and are made (who by; what factors influence decision making).

4)     Explore the ideas, theories and evidence underpinning decision making  (logics of economic / sustainable development / living wage debates / which histories are developed publically and why).

5)     Develop an open public debate – through an open inquiry approach to the research – to lead to richer and polyvocal understandings of how heritage affects life in York.

6)     Actively involve people who are interested in these debates in shaping, feeding into and participating in the inquiry.

7)     Use the open process of the inquiry to shape how heritage decisions might be made in York.

8)     Use the insights developed in the York strand to feed into the wider ‘How should decisions about heritage be made project?’
